11 YO

May 10 2021

Nice day today, isn’t it? May 10th is always nice, because back in 2010 on this very day Godville was born. Eleven years later and it’s still going strong and kicking, amusing all the deities and their heroes.

All these years would not be possible without the help from our tight-knit community of creative deities. Be it an idea submission, a bug report, ER or wiki edit or just hanging around — it all makes Godville better for everyone. So let’s get our anniversary cookie jar and grab some goodies.

First of all, congratulate your hero with a godvoice to get a festive pack of godpower charges. Then use godpower capacitor in Godville Times (while not in a duel) to get something else. Hunt for sweet anniversary monsters gleaming of godpower. Do all of that for the next 3 days to keep the party going. Let the fun begin!

Cheers everyone! Happy Eleventh, Godville!

Fully Booked

Apr 04 2021

Dear deities, today is epic. During the last 10 years, there have only been a few days like this: completion of the first Godville temple, first ark, first shop…

So today marks the day of completion of the very first Book, which Hairplug4men has finished just a few moments ago. Congratulations!

Let’s dive into what it all means:

  • The proud god gets a shiny new medal, as there could never be too many of those.
  • His well-deserved place in the pantheon of Wordcraft is now secured.
  • His hero mastered the art of glyph drawing, so now he can squeeze in 20 diary entries instead of the usual 10.

And it doesn’t end here. The main purpose of the Book of Creation is, obviously, to create. Using it, a small god can create worlds — not too big, but enough to fit a party wandering around in the search for treasure. Also known as “dungeons”.

Right, the god becomes a dungeon master — with a striking new ability to create a personal one. Real one, for real heroes! These dungeons even have some distinctive traits, like a brand new type of treasure clues made of glyphs or an unusually placed treasury boss.

Note that god-made dungeons won’t be drastically different from the regular ones. They are the same in terms of mazes and still should be beatable by a typical half-AFK Godville spelunking party. They would also be a rather rare thing, at least for the next few months, so don’t expect to get into one quickly.

In other, less important, news:

  • A noticeable change for treasure clues in regular dungeons — from now on diagonal and straight arrows will divide the map in equal proportions. It may feel unusual at first, but should be more intuitive.
  • GodWiki’s engine has been updated to a more recent version. There aren’t many visible changes, but a couple of new things should be handy for wiki editors.
  • The Easter special is under way. A hero could grab an easter cake in a town or get something eastery after a resurrection.

Friendzone

Feb 27 2021

Greetings, dear deities! It’s news time again.

Befriending Monsters
Remember an invite to Godville — an activatable item that helps gods friend each other? Apparently, some of us sure did, as it turned out that many deities have lots of invites laying around. Here is a new way to put them into use… on monsters!

With a tap of a finger, you can temporarily befriend the monster your hero is currently fighting. A bewildered beast will stop fighting at once, surrender all its belongings and retreat peacefully. All future encounters with this monster will be bloodless and lootless, at least while the magic lasts, which should be around a day or so.

A few things to note:

  • The hero should be at least level 12.
  • Special monsters (Questing, Wealthy, Healing, etc) are technically not de-feeted, so they won’t cast their usual upon-defeat curses or boons.
  • Wanted monsters, however, will still give the proof of their ‘death’, which makes them an easy target for these one-day friendships.
  • If suddenly you find yourself in need of invites, a handy push notification option in the app’s Settings, conveniently added years ago, is still at your service.

Tamable Mark
As the roster of Godville monsters grew over time, it became a bit difficult to guess who could be tamed or not, and when. From now on, if a hero is actively looking for a pet or has a free space in his ark, all pet-wannabes appropriate for his heroic level will have distinctive bone mark in their name.

Keep in mind though, that “To tame or not to tame?” is still a hero’s question, not god’s. But even if your hero chooses not to, now he will mention that in the diary.

New Coupons
Staff at our daily newspaper is eager to spice things up with a couple new coupon options. The first one will add a new POI on the map, and POIs are good for many things. The second one will let your hero get an unplanned side job upon cashing it in.

As usual, don’t forget to update your Godville app (Android, iOS) to enjoy the latest goodies.

Holiday Special

Dec 20 2020

This extraordinary year is coming to an end and we can’t wait to bid farewell to it. So let’s start our traditional Christmas celebration early!

Lots of things are going on in Godville on holidays. The most notable ones are snowflakes ❄. They can be knocked out of monsters and holiday reindeers, fished out of frozen ponds and lakes or extracted from the godpower capacitor in Godville Times.

Why do you need to know all of this? Because snowflakes are cool and versatile. They can be sold for lots of gold. They can also be used as wildcards in the newspaper’s bingo game. Moreover, three or more of them could sometimes turn into a pinata-style snowman — a perfect opponent to our brave heroes.

And of course, the main dish — seasonal gifts. At this time of the year they are practically falling out from everywhere — monsters, snowmen, newspaper’s bingo, etc. Gifts can turn into things the hero is looking for, boost experience, replenish godpower or do good in some other way. Basically, gifts are great.

Finally, let’s not forget the very special town of Laplandville. Conveniently located next to Godville, this festive town is already preparing to welcome its customers with great offerings and a holiday mood. Oh, and Santa Clawses and Satan Clauses are back and ready to be tamed by the lucky ones.

The special is here to stay till January 2. Happy Holidays!

Frost Bites

Dec 01 2020

Winter is Coming
Actually, it’s already here — which means it’s a perfect time to welcome the usual suspects.

The first one is kinda fishy. Fishing is what heroes do a lot in the winter. Hungry fish like it too and will nibble even without bait.

The second one is about ocean cold and what it brings to sails — icebergs. They’re just like reefs, but with an extra refrigeration function, which helps to save supplies while the ark is on it.

Skill Swaps
A hero is nothing without his superpowers aka skills. As you know, a hero could swap a skill for another one whenever he feels like it, which doesn’t happen too often. From now on, there is a way to give him a divine kick in that direction — a special activatable artifact. Once triggered, it will forcefully replace an existing skill with some other one. It’s not like you have to use it, but if you want – the option is there.

Content Update
Every once in a while we dive deep into the Ideabox to get back with a fresh bunch of game texts. Today is one of these resurfacing days. Having sorted through the vast deposits of just four ideabox drawers, we’re glad to report that hundreds of new diary phrases, quests, and artifacts are now in the game. And it’s not over just yet — more will be added over the next few days. Big thanks to all the authors and ER-editors!

One more nice thing — while the idea is in ER you can quickly jump to it right from your ingenious pieces. Handy!

Pet, Loot, Love

Oct 31 2020

Greetings, dear gods and goddesses! Hope you are doing well and ready to get updated.

Halloween Special
Let’s start off with a glimpse of spookiness. Risen monsters, glowing pumpkins, hungry tribbles, pumpkined-up artifacts — all of these will be in abundance everywhere throughout Godville for the next 24 hours.

New Pet Breed
Back to the more lasting things. Remember the last update which introduced a new way to free up the ark’s stable? Now it’s a good time to fill it up again with new inhabitants.

A strong urge for a fancy pet’s job has brought up a fascinating change in some of the monsters — an unstoppable desire to loot things. Instead of gnawing on and breaking hero’s stuff, these pets like to find things. It will come in handy for those who like to fill up their loot bags faster.

Here is the list of new pets: Robber Chicken (18+), Chesthugger (30+), Pocket Monster (40+), Evil Minion (50+), Spider Pig (60+), Atomic Kitten (75+), Hamburglar (85+), Unbearable Grizzly (100+), Battle Hamster (110+) and Lava Lamb (130+).

Oh, and if you know an in-game monster who is perfect for a pet’s job — any pet, not just the looting ones — feel free to send it in Ideabox, ‘other’ section. There ought to be new additions to the pets tribe sooner or later.

Rest of the News
Diversity, as we all know now, is a must. Let’s spice up a few of the existing things with fresh sprinkles:

  • New newspaper coupons — for free potions and even skill level up.
  • New side job — to flee from a bunch of monsters.
  • New datamine option — bosses can pick up bits while flying over them.

Finally, a handy tweak for boss-constructing gods — if a hero has a Lab, boss parts in the inventory will now mention part’s level.

Mushroom Season
The summer is almost over – which means it’s time for mushroom hunting. The whole month of September heroes will constantly stumble upon mushrooms. With strange aura-inducing effects upon eating.

Setting Pets Free
Getting rid of an unwanted pet was always a chore – too much hustle with vet quests and everything. Introducing a new, much simpler way to release an undesired pet-monster (even with levels)! You’ll need only two things for this – an ark and the godly virtue of patience. After spending six uninterrupted months in the ark a pet can be set free into the wild if the god wishes so. (The old way with a vet quest is still here, so you can use it as before.)

Pet’s Relatives
It was always strange to see a pet beating up his own kind. No more of this nonsense – if your hero’s pet meets a relative, it will somehow work things out without a fight.

Sail Chronicles Upgrade
A recent improvement from dungeons has made its way to the seas: new sail replays will reveal the map step by step, just like it was happening in original expeditions.

Pinned Chats
Long-awaited and many times requested feature for messaging: pin conversations to the top of your list, so the most important friends will always be just a tap away.

App Update
Most of the things mentioned today require an app update. Both Android and iOS apps have been updated recently, so make sure you’re on the latest version to enjoy the new stuff. There are two bonus features inside: search on page for built-in web browser, and new in-fight notification – ‘notify after X turns’.

Free Coupons, etc

Jul 08 2020

Newspaper Coupons
Godville Times editors are always looking for new ways to delight their readers. This time around they’ve made a deal with local traders to introduce a simple, yet functional thing: coupons for free stuff.

It works like this: the newspaper will publish a new coupon every day. A deity can transfer this coupon straight to their champion’s pockets with a divine tap, and the hero will then cash it out during the next trading session. Most days the coupons will give some kind of an activatable artifact, but there will be other things as well.

Datamine Refreshments
It’s been a while since Datamine has opened, so it’s good to spice it up with a bit of variety. Datamine runs can now have special rules, e.g. a rule to kick bosses more often, a rule to have more locked bits, a rule that defines bytes as 7 bits… Just like in dungeons and sails — you know the drill.

Parts & Lab
If your hero is already collecting boss’ parts, you know that he visits the Lab only upon arriving in town, which leaves a few cases when the part can be lost or sold. So from now on the heroes will check the Lab more often – after praying and even after teleporting to a town. This applies to the wanted monster rewards as well.

Summer Package

Jun 01 2020

Hello, gods and goddesses! Just a few weeks ago we celebrated Godville’s anniversary. Now it’s time to move on — with new goodies and stuff.

  1. Remember the strong monsters? The ones noted with a meeting phrase in the diary. From now on it will be easier to spot them by the bold name right in the Earthly News. (Make sure to use the latest version of the app from the store.)
  2. New achievement for the Book writers is here — just wait for the next glyph to see it.
  3. New side job. This time it involves the favorite thing of every hero — squandering money on town parties.
  4. New sea type — without ubiquitous crates, but with an extra booty on a map.
  5. New dungeon type — every room will generate a small amount of godpower.
  6. Arena/Dungeons/Sails speed up — each step will be a tiny bit faster (around 10-20%).
  7. Sparring fights from now on will equalize the opponents’ health (just like in Arena duels).
  8. Dungeon chronicles now reveal the map step by step, just like in the original expedition. (Only for the new chronicles.)

10th Anniversary!

May 10 2020

Hello, Godville’s gods and goddesses! Today is a really special day.

Ten years ago, on May 10, 2010, this world was created. (This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.)

So today we’re celebrating Godville’s 10th Anniversary. Tenth! Can you imagine it?

(We are not, frankly. It’s simply too much for our fragile minds to grasp.)

Nevertheless, here we are. Thanks to the gods and goddesses — it’s great to have you all here. Thanks to our heroes — they work tirelessly to amuse us. Thanks to all those who help — we couldn’t do it without you. Thanks to the server daemons — they (almost) never let us down. In other words, thanks to everything and everybody.

Let’s get to the celebration part, shall we? Firstly, congratulate your hero with a godvoice to fill your accumulator with a supersized pack of charges. That should get you in the right mood.

Then check the godpower capacitor in the newspaper — it went off the scale. For the next 5 days it will be bursting with energy and will even yield some extra — if a hero is not too busy. Meanwhile loads of specially bred anniversary monsters have been released into the fields, waiting to be defeated and sacrificed. Running out of godpower would be really hard for the next few days.

Finally, as a part of the celebration, we’re doing a Reddit AMA right now. Check it out if you’re burning with questions or just want to know more about Godville history.

Happy Anniversary!
