Rufus is not what you might call a “hero” by the usual merits. He is frequently selfish, he cannot learn from his mistakes (literally and physically can’t), and he takes everything given to him for granted. And yet despite that, he has a good soul. Which is why when Goal, the only person Rufus has ever sacrificed something for, couldn’t take him to Elysium due to unforeseen consequences, he didn’t complain. He accepted his loss and fell back down to Deponia, expecting his demise.
…Except he landed on something soft. And not in a place where he expected to be. Some weird polar bear with wings hung around the unfortunate soul Rufus landed on. “Welp,” – spoke the frost fairy, – “guess you will have to do. I shall guide you in this world of Godville.”
Now this was a place where Rufus would fit right in. A whole world filled with wacky “heroes” like him? What could be better? Why, Elysium, of course! Where his beloved Goal is waiting for him! And so Rufus of Deponia set out to look for a way back to his world.
Of course, no one said he can’t have fun while searching for a way back!
