In the beginning, the Great Apollo sought to create a hero for the world. He attempted to give the hero the grandest of names, The Worm.
“Name already in use. Try again.”
“What the &$@$?!”
“Name already in use. Try again.”
Great Apollo was infuriated. How dare some other lesser god create a hero with his chosen name? At that point, Great Apollo placed a scourge on the earth, embodied in a new, sinister hero, known only as The Real Worm. His soul purpose is to cause death and destruction in the search of the impostor.
The Real Worm started began his quest as a member of the guild Immortals of Rome, where he trained in the arts of the arena. While his thirst for blood was satisfied in the arena, his quest was not. He disappeared into the shadows, joining a guild known as the Black Market. There he found many that were willing to sell their secrets for gold, or in some cases, at the urging of a blade. He remained in the guild until he could stand the incessant mindless banter of the guild council no more. No one knows for sure what happened to the guild council, but they were all discovered slain in the council chambers, each corpse devoid of blood.
The Real Worm disappeared into the shadows. Rumors spread throughout Godville of a demon with an unquenchable thirst for blood, death, and destruction. The heads of wanted monsters were discovered on the gates of the town, with no hero to claims their prize. Thankful towns were thankful no more, when their own citizens turned up missing or dead days later…
One day the hero happened upon a member of the Harvest Moon guild. While the infidels all worshiped lesser gods, they all shared his thirst for blood, death and destruction. His god’s power was stronger here, amplified by his twin sister’s power over the moon. Soon after joining, he began to focus all of his efforts on the completion of a temple; not to worship his god (for that was not his purpose), but to channel more of his god’s power.
As he placed the last brick on the temple, fire engulfed the hero. The skies darkened; black arrows rained down on the city of Godville, and a plague spread like wildfire. Unlike the meteors and lightning that usually rained down from the heavens from his god, this fire was different. It infused a new power. When the light emerged, so did the hero, with a new name. He was now El Gusano, or el chupacabra of the moon.
The impostor still lurks somewhere in the shadows. El Gusano will not rest until the infidel is sacrificed at the altar of his god. Until that day, he will travel the world, spreading death and destruction to further his goals and complete his quest.
