The ultimate sailing guide by Zetris

0. First things first, I strongly recommend that you check out and become very familiar with the following sailing guides first, if you haven’t done so already.

Sailing
Feather Mail’s sailing guide

This guide will skip all the basics.

Also, this is a guide for new ark owners (ark completion less than 200%). Otherwise, you are probably already a veteran who won’t need this guide.

1. Sailing can be divided into the following phases: deployment, exploration and return.

2. Deployment means to start the sail (most of the times from the port) and get to where you want to start exploring. Statiscally, about 80% of the booties are found outside of the 2nd ring. I would always aim towards a cell which is 2 or 3 steps outside of the 2nd ring.

3. Once you get to this spot, sail in the direction parallel to the 2nd ring.

Sailing Conditions
This goes without saying – different sailing conditions can affect your strategy quite a bit.

50 turns
The map is about half as small. You should try to go to a cell 1 or 2 steps away from the 1st ring, and start your explorations there.

Closed borders
When you venture outside of the 2nd ring, keep in mind the diatance back to port. Your supply (and maybe health) may not last too long.

If you get a crate before you start the exploration phase, you may consider this a “good outcome” and start heading back.

Dead Sea

Double Booty
Play like normal sail. If additional charges can guarantee a Treasure/Manimal/Fenimal, then use!

Extra Booty
Play like normal sail

High Winds
Easier map – you are closer to the 2nd ring so don’t have to waste food getting there.

More lighthouses
Consider heading for one of the lighthouses that is at least 12-14 steps away from the port. A Double name beastie may be revealed.

Mysterious Islands
One cell islands are very profitable (because it will yield something and take less time to explore). Large island should only be considered when looking for booties and crates.

No booty Hints
Play like normal sail – Easier condition as you can see further away.

No gold bags
Play like normal sail

Only ! Hints
Play like normal sail. Head for the ! Hints outside the 2nd ring.

Pacifism
Play like normal sail

Repeated Visits

Roaming Beasties
This is a tricky one, because all booty hints may refer a roaming two name, and hence the locations are not accurate (or very misleading).

Scattered Beasties

Starting Hints

50 turns
This is my least favourite sailing condition at the moment.

Head for the 1 or 2 steps outside the first ring. Don’t worry too much about food because you probably won’t run out. If you run into a beastie you don’t want to fight, steer away – you can’t afford to lose turns. Also, you can afford to use GP more frequently, so if you run into a large island, you should consider speed up the exploration.

How I tamed my Atomic Kitten

Part I – First attempts

Ever since I’ve completed my ark, I have been thinking of giving my Dust Bunny a proper holiday – that is, tame another pet with multiple abilities. I have picked Atomic Kitten as the pet I wanted to keep given its three useful abilities: Looting, Dungeoning and Riding (and yes in that order).

The challenge is that my hero will choose a pet by himself. I needed to give him a nudge every now and then. Here’s how I did it.

First, raise the hero to level 75 so Atomic Kitten become tamable. Next, keep an eye on him and ensure he only defeats this monster. Lastly, before you go to sleep, make sure you take an existing pet from the ark; and when you wake up, put the pet back into the ark so you have the next day to tame your ideal pet.

That was the plan anyway, but it didn’t work – at least not during my first attempts.
