Hero's Chronicles

“That the Comanches were brave, no one who had occasion to test their courage will deny. I never knew a warrior to submit to capture; they fought to the death. On two different occasions, noted elsewhere, I saw a wounded buck lie flat on his back and fight till dead.”

Comanche Warrior — 101st-level adventurer, member of the “Scroogers” guild, with the motto “Hold still, dammit®”, stands at the 39th position in the pantheon of storytellers under the vigilant supervision of the god Tomobi. We’ve had many reports that a Kazookeeper has been afraid to make eye contact with him since their last encounter.

Some random info about dungeons for those who just got their temple. There are some good guides out there, I’m not going to duplicate them, just offering some tips to help you shorten the learning curve.

1. Don’t be intimidated; read one of the guides and jump in. The guides will make much more sense after you’ve done a couple dungeons. Go back and forth; do a few then re-read the guide.

2. You don’t HAVE to spend more than the 50% gp entrance fee. At first, just sit back and watch (and try to stay alive). If someone else is driving, watch and determine what you would do, then compare it to what the driver did. If the driver is experienced (especially 80% or more of their ark completed) try to follow their thought process. Exception: If the driver has recently gotten pairs, he will probably try to hit the treasure boss, so don’t follow his logic there if you want to avoid the TB.

2.5 Staying alive: You have the best chance of getting max hp if you heal in a boss fight. When you’re in the dungeon, not in with a boss, vc to heal won’t work, only Encourage and miracles (and those don’t work in Anti-Influence dungeons). Watch the boss type for deafening, leeching, enlightened, faithless, and overhearing, as these affect your ability to heal.

3. Read the bold sentences at the start of the dungeon, they identify the type of dungeon you’re in and what the nook does, if there is one. If you don’t know the dungeon type, look it up quick in the Godwiki.

4. Don’t feel compelled to hit the nook, the reward isn’t always worth going out of your way for. But notice its location, as usually the treasure is in the same quad.

5. Usually there are 4 bosses you’ll encounter: 2 one-ability, 1 two-ability, and the treasure boss, which has three abilities. Generally, one of the 1ab (1 ability boss) is near the entrance, often against the outside wall; and the other is between the entrance and the treasure (but closer to the entrance than to the treasure). The 2ab is between the entrance and the treasure, often about 6-7 steps from the treasure. You can use the placement of these bosses to tell you whether you’re heading in the right direction. The treasure boss is in one of the 8 rooms that directly touch the treasure room. The treasure room is always connected to 2 or 3 walls, so either in a corner or hall.

6. The treasure is usually 5-6 rooms diagonally from the entrance. Aim your search here, but don’t get fixated as it could be 3 up and 9 over, for example, or 5 down and 7 over. But it is never in the same row or column the entrance is, or 2 rows/columns adjacent on either side. So if the treasure is in the NW quad, it will be at least 3 rows north of the row the entrance is in, and at least 3 columns west.

7. If someone else starts driving, let them. Don’t grab the wheel from them. If you feel they are hopelessly lost, PM them; they’ll probably be happy to let you take over. But if you’re just starting out and the driver has almost finished her ark, and you think she’s messing up, it’s probably you that’s hopelessly lost.
