Hero's Chronicles

‘Who am I?’

A small thought floated in her head.

As she first came into existence, it was her first thought. She knows she has been chosen to serve her God. She knows her God’s name and the name her God chose for her. She knows her God is watching her fumble through the unknown to please him. She knows her God has his own aspirations and ambitions and she has been chosen to act for him.

But why can’t she remember anything other than that? Why can’t she remember who she was before being chosen to be the heroine of her God?

As she goes through her journey, she recieves random visions and signs. Some she know she received from her God to help her. But some she does not recognize.

Some are visions of other heroes and heroines doing their own businesses, which her God assured was messages from other Gods and Goddesses for their own heroes and heroines.

But some she faintly recognized and brings a warm feeling to her heart.

She seen herself sitting in a Shrine drinking tea while a blonde haired witch pestered her to give her some. It brought a feeling of frustration in her heart but it also reminded her of home. She seen herself flying through the skies while shooting streams of color at some tiny girls with wings that pranked her. It brought a feeling of annoyance but it also gave her a sense of freedom.

Why does she feel that it reminds her of home? Was that her before she was chosen?

All those visions can’t be real. What she had there, she didn’t have here. What she can do then, she can’t do now.

‘That can’t be me.’

A thought reapetedly heard in her mind. She didn’t know anyone she seen in her visions. She can’t fly and shoot colorful lights to destroy anyone in her path. If she had that, questing would be easier.

‘But what if it was me? What if I had something more but had it taken away from me?’

Her first equipment that she remembered was a strange red and white long-sleeved dress that would be easily shredded by monsters and shown her shoulders and a powerless stick with paper that is just slightly worse than a sharp stick. But no matter what, she doesn’t have the will to let go of it. The thought of those things being lost from her would bring a ache to her heart.

‘How could it be so special that I don’t want to let go of it?’

The realization struck her. That was what she was wearing in her visions.

In her visions, the strange red and white clothes would withstand the largest laser that she had seen, in visions or in reality and it even has massive rainbow colors that would blind the common man if stared upon, and only be ripped and singed slightly. The stick that has paper tied onto it would be swung by her and a barrage of multiple colors would annihilate her enemy, without killing them which is super strange.

But that couldn’t be right.

In her current predicament, where she is too weak to truly leave a mark in the world, she can’t afford to fantasize that she can defeat swathes of enemies in one swing.

‘But what if her God was limiting her so she could be controlled? What if the entity she calls her God is the one who took everything away from her?’

That can’t be true. Her God can’t be that cruel. Since the start her journey, her God had been encouraging and helpful, if a bit noisy she must say. Always saying random things and orders.

Trecherous thoughts are starting to form and her head is hurting from thinking too much.

She sighed

“Thinking too much again. Time to drink some beer to hopefully forget it again. I wish I can be as laid-back as myself in my visions. I’m craving for some sake.”

Wait. What even is sake?!

Since she was chosen as a heroine by her God, she had been unsure on what to do. Everyday would be to get a quest, walk around until she completes it, meet a monster, beat down the monster, then get beat up by other monsters and be forced to return to a town then occasionally get a random vision that she would ignore.

With no prior memories to fall back upon and no goals to reach for, she continued to let myself be guided by her God and the monotony of receiving quests, walking around, then completing said quests.

It was because of her watchful God, always healing her when she was close to death, that she was never in danger. It was also because of that fact that she became too arrogant. She believed she would never be in danger. She believed she could take on the world without any consequences.

The crackling sounds and light seeping through the clouds that always followed her were gone. The constant warmth that surrounded her was gone. Her God has taken a rest from watching her.

Even as she realized this fact, she continued to venture forth anyway without any regard for her safety. She continued her quest and killed monsters. She continued to collect everything she can get to become stronger and help her God. Blood dripping from her weapon and herself, she didn’t care if the blood was hers or not.

As she was standing in the middle of the corpses, something struck her in the back. She lost her composure and fell to the ground. It struck and clawed her back with no mercy, and her crimson blood continuously poured into the ground.

Tears flowed from her eyes. It was too much to bear for her as without any memories, she has little experience with pain and being coddled by her God, she doesn’t know how to handle it. It was too painful.

After seemingly endless torture, it left. All she felt was pain. Her tears had long ago dried. She tried to gain hope and tried to stand up. She can’t. She tried to scream and call for help. She can’t.

She can’t. She can’t! She can’t!!

The warmth of her body slowly left her, along with her hopeful thoughts. One thought became the most prominent within her.

‘Has my God abandoned me?’

It was a harrowing experience. Feeling her body being disturbed by all that crawls upon the earth. Feeling her body slowly turning to dust then be put back together by mystical threads of light.

It disturbed her. It scared her. It scarred her. The memory of her death would permanently break her psyche. Leaving nothing but a broken heroine that has lost all her hope.

But then it all disappeared.

She felt the pain go away. She felt her hopelessness go away. She felt her last hope grow from the depths of her soul.

The ground busted into a myriad of colors. Then there was none. Nothing remained, only endless darkness. She looked down, up, and everywhere. She realized she can move around now. She wandered around endlessly, trying to find something in this endless void.

She sees something. A tiny speck of color in this black world. She ran to it, clinging to her last hope. That everything was not hopeless after all. As she gets closer and closer, she realized it was something familiar. It was a woman. She was wearing a red-and-white dress that weirdly shows her shoulders. She had long hazel hair and was holding a long stick with strips paper tied onto it.

Reimu hesitated. Her dash slowed down into a jog. The woman turned to face her. She has hazel eyes and a lax and laid-back expression on her face. Both of their eyes widened.

‘She looks like me!’

Reimu can’t determine any clear emotions from her. Her doppelganger seemed relaxed and oddly calm. She walked towards Reimu and placed her hand at Reimu’s face and smiled. Then the world exploded in colors.

“Who are you!”

The woman waved at her, smiling. A flash of multiple colors, she was forced to close her eyes.

“What do you mean?”

She looked around startled by the loud voice that is not surely female. She saw where she was before but cleaner. There were no signs of corpses or blood. The only thing left was a pile of stuff placed at her feet. Then she saw her God, looking curiously at her.

“M-my Lord! Umm…”

She was finding it difficult to explain what happened, what she seen and experienced. Everytime she tries to speak her mouth would close. This continued for a few minutes.

“Reimu, my Shrine Maiden.”

Reimu squeaked, surprised from her hesitation. She saw her God’s serious expression. She tried to calm herself and listen what her God would say.

“I have only a few minutes in the mortal world so I would be blunt. Reimu, you have died and I resurrected you back.”

Her God stopped talking to let it sink into her. She surprisingly feels calm about it. Reimu nodded to let her God continue.

“Are you okay Reimu? Are you feeling different?”

Reimu remembered what she has experienced but she only feels calm about it. What she felt earlier, she can’t feel now. It was like she never experienced it at all.

“Yeah… I’m okay. I think I just need a break for now.”

Her God looked skeptical. She also found it strange. She couldn’t have recovered instantly from the experience of death. Her God sighed.

“If you think so. But please take care of yourself Reimu, my Shrine Maiden.”

Then her God faded into particles of light.

‘My God does still care for me. I guess I have to take it easy for now. I wonder who was that woman. Why does she look like me?’

A bright ray of light shone down on Reimu and she faded into particles of light. As Reimu disappeared, a whisper came flown by the wind.

“I am you, but you are not me. You were the same as me, but are now different. Your life created anew from me, but now a blank slate. Live your new life, nothingness be filled with your newfound happiness.”

After the hard day, Reimu experienced a dreamless sleep she never received since her first memory.

Observations of a Newbie God

Entry #1
Space in this world

The mechanics of space in this world is unique. No matter what road the hero or heroine takes, it would always lead to a town. If the hero or heroine retreats, it would always take them to the town the hero has visited before and if the they walk back even further from the previous town, they would find themselves in the town before the previous town. If the hero or heroine continues to quest after recovering, the order of towns they venture into will always be the same.

This only changes when the hero or heroine chooses another quest after their previous one. The moment they receive a new quest, the world would seemingly distort and the position of towns relative from the capital would be changed. It also seems that if different Gods or Goddesses have different quests, the positions of the town would be different from their perspective. Although there would be a chance for multiple Gods and Goddesses to have the same perspective regarding to the positions of the towns.

My suspicion would be that the reason of the distortion of space is caused by multiple Gods and Goddesses using their Godpower and Accumulator Charges to change reality. The leftover Godpower from their miracles might combine together causing distortions in reality because of differing aspects of the Godpower mixed together. The distortions seem to only affect space but is suspected to affect time in a tiny amount causing it to be mostly unnoticeable.

There is also a peculiar event where space distortions are much worse and prevalent resulting in all retreating heroes and heroines finding themselves in Godville.

God’s Area. Random Rambles

1. Damn she died. First day then I slept then when I woke up, the notification popped up. Apparently died 10 minutes after I left. Am I unlucky?

2.D-062805/D-Class (The Foundation) – Secret Technique! . . .
Run Away!!! Might be Reimu’s senior, but in her diary he is always seen running away from something. Is the Foundation overworking you again? Are you stuck in another time loop again consisting of creatures trying to kill you and you trying to outsmart them but still die anyway?

3. Lan Qinyin (Casualty Cycle) – Damn has a complicated fighting style consisting of moving like the rivers, steadfast as a mountain, and striking as fierce as the infernos. According to Reimu in her diary.

4. Finding Golden Bricks left and right. Is the world balancing my luck?

5. Gave Reimu too much encouragement that she became too encouraged and beat up monsters left and right even if she can’t defeat them. She even glowed sinister red and scared off the traders. Lucky she didn’t die. Guess there is actually a thing of encouraging too much.

6. First spar against a friend. It was fun and for me was super luck based. Apparently encourage heals everyone and punish strikes the enemy, but I’m not sure. Might make a chronicle from Reimu’s point of view.

7. Reimu found a “historical marking” where Omega79 died. Okay? Not sure about the name though. What I remember is only Omega_9.

8. Seen my position in the Pantheon of Creation fall. I just realized I accidentally punished Reimu in the spar but it made me win. I am split on regretting it and not.

9. I see that all heroes and heroines are all masters of the “Secret Technique: Run Away!” After all, why die when you can run. Some situations call for a Tactical Retreat.

10. Won my first duel. Enemy God not helping their hero at all. Mind got too full of arrogance. Second duel, underestimated the enemy and got defeated. Lesson Learned?

It also seemed that my enemy has unlimited God Power and spammed actions 4 times till he got action locked. He might have used an Accumulator Charge.

11. What the… spammed encouragements and punishments and no golden brick? I have 12611 gold! I thought the more the money, the higher the chance! And now I’m at zero God power.

12. Heroine survived with 1 hp. I don’t know if it’s from getting hit by a meteorite or getting mauled by the Lightsaber-toothed tiger. I didn’t even notice what happened.

13. Yes! Slap that fairy out of the way! I don’t to be reminded every time what I need to do! No! Don’t slap me too!

14. I thought guild quests last several days. But why is my quest already at 71% after only several hours? Is there a secret after quest? Haha! Jinxed myself and my heroine died while I was sleeping. The quest is at 90+% after a day so I guess it’s longer? Wow that was fast. Just hanging out on Forums then it was done.

15. Reimu received the 50th golden brick.

“This looks a bit scuffed. I guess I just have to put it on the back wall of the temple.”

She discreetly rearranged the back wall and placed the 50th golden brick where she hopes her God doesn’t see it.

“Well, time to go the tavern to unwind! Though I find myself wanting some tea instead of beer. That’s weird.”

Meanwhile…

A flash of golden light illuminated a cloud in the heavens. A golden ball with an inscription of an eye dropped next to a snoring God.

16. “06:28 PM Turned around and saw a bunch of people who looked like me walking in a line behind me. Damn lag.”

When you have to refresh in a duel just to progress. Yes indeed.

17. Sipping tea in the guild hall, savoring the guild tea pleasure…

Oooooh!

18. I always get death count removal from black boxes. Okay?

19. 6/28/2020
• All responsibility for the originality of Ideabox submissions was put on Hakurei Shrine God’s shoulders.

20. 12:53 PM After such a glorious battle with the Rocky Raccoon I could not bring myself to deliver the finishing blow. Instead, he will be my new companion. Come along, Pumba, let’s go questing!

Woo! First pet!

21. Yay! Finally got Invincible 3!

22. Beat the previous record on fastest arena fight 2.0! Now on the Hall of Records!

23. 8/6/2020
• At this rate, Hakurei Shrine God will soon have enough ingenious pieces to make an entire ingenious.

24. Huh, forum limit is 50.
