Hero's Chronicles

Please rate gently. I am still reading over, making changes and adding to this story. It’s a work in progress as I tend to write the basic idea down and go back and better reword it later. Please check notes at bottom for possible future changes and ideas.

My new plan, to find the end of the chronicles, where it will not let me write no more.

Chapter one… Risen

Alas ye traveler, you ask what would drive a men mad enough to be done with society and dive deep into the blue abyss. Aye then, I will tell you a story heard by few ears and known by less.

It all begun on the day of the equinox as the sun begun its decent into Davy Jones’ Locker and the light of the moon kissed the cheeks of a destined young man unaware of what truly awaits him. Aye, over a thousands moons has passed since that moment frozen in my minds eye.

This young men, a master pilot of such young age took to the helm of a merchant schooner on the quiet starlit night as his ship mates and captain took below deck for the nights rations, a small feast in honor of the equinox and the start of the voyage to the way home.

As the others had their fill of food and grog below, and the helm must always be manned, a dish was brought up to the young man, Captains orders. Aye, a fine meal even for a landlubber of braised corned beef and sauerkraut to fight away any scurvy, a grog of rum, and a rare and fine pudding, a favorite delicacy of this young man, worthy of a pirates booty

Aye, after eating his meal and finishing the grog, this young man tied the helm straight and headed to the bow of the ship to enjoy the fine pudding looking over the sea of Qu’ tox while unbeknownst to him the great danger that lurks beneath.

Arrr, as the young mans spoon readied for a blissful bite, the slimy tentacles of beast rose from beneath the gentle white caps and wrapped its mass around the arms of the man, lifting him into the air like a rigger climbing jacobs ladder to the crows nest and over the foaming beak of a giant squid.

Shiver me timbers, Seeing the Kraken below, the man screamed with the ferocity of a thousand scared little girls and soon slipped the pudding from his hands and onto the twisted tongue of the beast which went into convulsions at just the slightes taste of such exotic concoction and then slung the man back onto the poop deck against the main mast.

Avast, hearing the commotion from above deck, the mans Captain and shipmates came above and noticed the lad laying on the floor and quite relieved he wore his brown pants that day. The young man jumped up in panic as one about to be keelhauled and told his mates of how the beast attacked and the loss of his pudding. The ship mates with clubs, cutluss, and flintlock’s in hand heaved ho quickly to the ships railing expecting a great battle that would be sung for ages, but alas, the beast had sunk back into the abyss long before the Captain and shipmates could gaze their one good eye upon it.

Those loathsome shipmates of his seeing nothing but sea foam believe the young man had gone mad and like a cowardly landlubber hiding in the bilge rat during a storm, quickly confronted the Captain to cast the young man from the ship. The captain, under fear of mutiny from all hands on deck and a belief that the young man could have a sickness that could be spread had no other choice. The lad was cornered by the mob then quickly placed into a raft with a single loaf of bread and small cask of water, and set adrift into the blackness of the night. Arr traveler, yellow bellied cowards the whole lot of them be, quick to judge but not to think.

Chapter two… Storm of destiny

Aye, many days passed as the lad drifted alone, hungry, sunburned and close to death as the scurvy set in. The bread was rationed but gone for two days, his water to the last drop, and nothing to be seen for a league. He sat alone and waited for what ever comes next, whether it be survival or death.

Aye, he need not wait long for the sky soon darkened, the wind churned in all directions, and a great storm was aloft. With what little strength he could muster, he held tightly the raft with means of a landyard as the waves tossed his tattered body abouts but to no avail could he keep with the fury. Besieged by the constant rains and now beaten by hail, he was soon to weary to hold on any longer. his hand loosened on the landyard, eyes to heavy to keep open, a blackness seems to encompass him as he prepares himself to meet his maker. With his last final gasp to contain all his lungs could muster he shouts " GOD HELP ME" then begins to slide out of the raft into the dark cold drink.

Alas, the poor dog, believing to be all alone amongst the fury, but little did he know that his final prayer had been heard. Aye, having seen his hardship over the past few moons, the God Drakkar took pity upon this salty dog and using what miracles he had at his disposal, cast a giant waterspout which carried the unconscious young man away and landed him somewhat forcefully onto the soft sands of a beach near the mouth of a mysterious cave. Awoken by the impact, the lad crawled into the mouth of the cave seeking shelter, unaware of the importance of what this newly discovered shelter holds for him.

The day moves slowly, the storm rages own outside and the lad is feeling renewed with his newfound luck. His mind wonders of the betrayal of his dasturdly shipmates and the atrociousness of the squid, the young man filled with a new rage. Aye, one which burns with the desire to prove his shipmates wrong and to finally rid the world of such vile beast as the giant squid so no other swashbuckler would suffer as he. Avast ye, for the lad has found his calling in life, and that calling now runs threw him as a feroucious beast seeking it’s prey.

Arr, not far inside the cave carved out by the sea, he first finds an area of shelter, then he gathers some drift wood slightly outside the mouth of the cave. With one piece of arm length branch, he wraps cob webs around one end and then strikes stone together causing sparks and igniting the webbing for a torch. With another, straighter nearly body length stick, he picks up a stone, beats out one end into a point, and hardens the tip in the fire. Aye, and with that makes a crude spear.

The lad, now properly equiped ventures deeper into the cave seeking out sources of fresh water and food. Not far into the cave he finds a small opening in the rocks of the cave, a spring which is feeding a small pool. He taste the water, and it is fresh and exquisite to his taste buds. He drinks like a sailor at a tavern after months at sea. Once his thirst had been quenched, he notices some movement at the bottom of the pool around the rocky edge. He moves a rock and their be a crawfish. Aye, after a short time of gathering, he has found enough to cook a small meal. He then returns to his shelter area to prepare his meal to his grueling stomachs delight. Soon he was feeling fat and sleepy. The lad lays down in a corner of the cave and is out like a light till early morning.

Chapter Three… Deep Idea

The sun has risen just above the horizon and kisses the lads eyelids with its warm rays. Feeling the change the lad awoken from a long deep much needed sleep. He decides he needs to explore this marvelous cave more. As he journeys deeper past the spring, he notices a chamber with a pond in the center where the cavern ends. He taste the water and it is salty.

Aye, the lad looks into the water sees a great school of fish, he watched as they appeared to go under a large rock and disapear. The lad dives in seeking to spear the fish and is caught by a current and drugged deep into a underwater cave. The surroundings move quickly by him, fish of all types, plants he could not imagine, life he never knew could exist in such a place. Soon his amazement turns to agony and horror as his need to breath takes his thoughts, he may soon meet Davy Jones himself.

He looks forward and sees a light as the current keeps him in tow, the seconds feel as an eternity as he resist the urge to breath. Arr, it soon be the lights is above him, he swims up as hard as he can just as the burn of his lungs became too much to bare, he breaks the surface and inhales the salty air deeply into his aching lungs delight. As the lad catches his breath, he starts looking around and notices he is now in the sea just outside the cave.

Avast ye traveler for ya would think that nearly drowning would put some much needed fear into a man, but as he swims to shore, his mind is full of images of the marine world beneath, a world of amazement and thrills, one that should bring fear to him but does not, he feels he belongs their but he isnt sure how. He looks over his shoulder as he is swimmings and sees the sail of a ship crossing the horizon. At first he debated turning around and to swim for the ship, but soon images flashed in his mind of being at sea in his old ship during great storms, and of how when they closed up the port holes and batten down the hatches, the ship is impenatrable by water. And that is when the answer came to him. A ship that impenatrable by water. That is how he will return to the sea.

Aye, and from that day forth, he began planning a mighty ship unlike no other of the time, one which does not only sail above the sea, but also below the sea and could pass the depths of even the Kracken. Arrr, a ship that could put the fear to hide behind the porthole in a pirate like no beard himself. It may take him a lifetime to build but he will complete this quest.

Chapter Four… Trails End

The lad counts twenty three moons since his arrival to the cave. His new home has taken quite a fine shape with a bamboo wall and door held together with vines inside the cave to keep out any wondering creatures. A bed made of large leafed plants and stuffed with soft moss, a crude stacked stoned fireplace that could be used for cooking meals and drying out fish, and also a few small stone tools. Over the past few days, he managed to catch and dry several pounds of fish giving him enough food to spend a few days exploring the surrounding area. The young men wraps the fish in leaves, fills a coconut shell with water and heads into the surrounding wilderness.

Aye, two more moons pass, and it is mid noon of the third day. Matey, this land he be stranded on shows signs of civiliation as the lad has found a well beaten path and mile markers to help keep track of his location along with several sets of foot prints that the clever dog has been following for half a day.

Deciding on a rest, the lad hustles up to a small creek, refills his coconut canteen and then sits on a fallen log on which he enjoys his beverage. He takes a moment, shuts his eyes and listens intently to his surroundings. The lad hears the birds a chirping, squirrels’s scuttling in the tree’s, leaves rustling in the wind and… And drums…

Arrr, it’s faint but carries well with the wind, he listens intently on the constant dum dum, dum dum, dum dum, and a voice or is it many voices. Aye, it is too far away for the lad to tell. Thoughts fill his head of the tales of sailors old speaking of a group of great pirates and buccaneers who travel the eleven sea’s and all the world in search of something lost, something very powefull. This tale is lost to the lad, unable to remember what was spoken so long ago, back on the first days of ever being to sea.

Aye matey, now curiosity has caught the cat, the lad now feeling the need to find the source of the drums carefully follows the edge of the path staying behind foliage to be concealed from wondering eyes on the trail.

Three mile markers pass, the drums become louder and there is a clearing up ahead. The lad takes a moment to hide behind a bush and peer around the edge. Aye, before him stands a great moted Wall protecting a inner city with locked gate and draw bridge raised. Arr traveler, this place that looks to be of great importance and much commerce is now being besieged by an army of privateers, swashbuckler and quite the unsavory types you wish not meet in a dark alleyway. Aye, an estimant of at least three thousand, all carrying a flag of a fisted hammer.

Arr, that flag the sight of it jarred a memory from the old salts stories of past. He told the young lad of a group of warriors who carry such flag and search for a weapon lost to them in the days of past which holds a great power. This weapon holds within it a dark force to summon a furious demonic beast who sleeps in a depth that surpass even the deepest darkest depths of the eleven seas.

Aye, the lad cannot remember the story in its entirety, but he does remember that with a single touch by the beast, a person will vanish in a puff of smoke, and with a wave of its arm, an entire army will erupt into flames leaving not even a hint of the armies existance for all eternity. Arr matey, they are all gone like a stone dropped into Davy Jones locker, gone in a splash and never seen again.

Arr traveler, the moment grew dark for the lad who filled with dread and remorse for those who live within those city walls, and soon for all those who lives in these mysterious lands aswell. He glances once more over the great mass of warriors before him, he fell back behind the bush now overwhelmed by the upcoming slaughter, and that’s when it finally happened. Silence. The drums suddenly stopped it’s double beats like a heart taking its final beat. There is silence that lasted only seconds but felt as an eternity. Then without warning, the fury of hell is unleashed.

Chapter Five… Besieged

Arr matey, the lad froze behind that bush, seized by regret of been incapable of stopping the onslaught. His mind travels quickly trying to think of the thought to help those poor people, but is unable to grasp a single thought.

Aye, but soon luck strikes the young man like a hammer to an anvil. At that moment, a foolish warrior walks pass the bush. The lad sits as still as a plank in the wall in a attempt to not be noticed. It was quite a successful move as the warrior walks by with out even a glance, heads to a large tree, drops his pantaloons of fury and proceeds to relieve himself against the tree. The lad sees his chance, slowly and quietly gets up while picking up rock in the hand. He sneaks behind being careful not to step on that which could make a sound.

The warrior finishes up, and with that it is shake, shake ,boom. Yo ho ho, the fool is knocked cold with his pants down leaving the lad an excellent opportunity for a change of clothing.

Aye, the now unconscious warrior, being relieved of his armor is tied to the pee stained tree using some nearby vines and gagged with his own sock. Arr the stench of which should knock him back out if he comes too, ho ho.

The lad puts on the platonic armor, pantaloons of fury, a cloak of visibility, a helmet with twisted horns. Places the bastion sheild on his back and took the rain bow as a weopon. Arr, none of those misfits who would see the lad now would be any wiser that he was not one of them, but now what does he do to stop them.

Sorry guys, still writing this chapter. Please check back later

Chapter Six… Fossil

The sun and moon played it’s game of chase, the seasons changed and changed again and again as time sailed forward. The now not so young lad grew strength surviving from his daily catch, slaying foul beast for profit and trading with the natives gathering supplies and parts until finally the day arrived, he finally completed it, a vessel which he named after the creature who’s fossils lined the walls of the cave, the Nautilus. After words, he took on a new name he found fitting for one like he, Nemo, a Latin word for “No One”, for that was what the world thought of him. And so the Nautilus and Captain Nemo cast out from the cave into the eleven sea’s and explored the oceans depths in search of adventure and the foul giant squid.

Along the way, Nemo watched many civilizations thrive, many privateers bravely fought and die, and witnessed many miracles from the periscope, never making contact with anyone. He managed many good deads, such as releasing life rings below drowning sailors until their ship can reach them, scuttling pirate ships at ramning speed before they can board damaged vessels and at several occasions, rising above and using his ship as a platform for the men of sunken ships until their SOS is received and help arrived.

Aye, but no seadog ever set foot inside the Nautilus until one faithful day as he settled just below the waves of the shore near the guild of the rejects for the night.

Chapter Seven… Stuck like a barnacle

As the night went on, Nemo slept in his bed unaware that as the morning comes closer, the tide goes down leaving the Nautilus stuck in the sand and above the waves until the next night as the tide raises. Aye, that crusty caper Nemo awoke only then learning of his mistake and leaving the Nautilus exposed like a barnacle at low tide. He quickly rushed to the periscope expecting to see crowds of landlubbers and privateers alike ready to scuttle the Nautilus which they believed to be some beast from the depths but instead seen only a single women on shore. Arr, one which did not seem fearful of the situation but bemused like a parrot who just found an open barrel of crackers, yo ho ho.

Nemo watched as the young lady gathered a box and begun to swim to the Nautilus. Nemo the scallywag, not knowing if he should protect the secrets of the ship or help the exhausted but determined swimmer. So he prayed, and with the encouragement from Drakkar, opened the hatch as the young lady climbed onto the hull of the ship. She introduced herself as Murigen, of the Goddess, Korrigan and a member of the guild “The Rejects”. Much time then passed since that meeting and an alliance between the Nautilus and The Rejects was formed. Captain Nemo, not being but being like The Rejects grew fond of the group and decided that when his quest to destroy the squid was over, he may one day retire to The Rejects. Though he was not official, they had accepted him as one of his own. And life for a short time happily past for Nemo.

Chapter Eight… Lost

But alas ye traveler, for all good things must come to an end. And so on that dreary day, Captain Nemo dived into the abyss expecting nothing more or less then the days before. He dove deep near a deep ravine filled with nothing but blackness looking for pearls to collect and from the blackness arose the Kracken wrapping its slimy tentacles around the Nautilus and pulling it into the depths past its known limits. The Nautilus groaned under pressure, pipes burst releasing a flash of steam and flood of water throughout the vessel, the crystal of the port holes cracked and begun to crumple under the Krackens assault.

Captain Nemo fought to save his ship and kill the beast but soon saw all hope gone. Nemo put on a diving suit, grabbed his trusty harpoon and headed to the airlock, but not before blowing the ballast which quickly filled with water and sent the ship along with the squid deeper into blackness of the treacherous ravine.

As Nemo exited the hatch of the Nautilus for the last time and prepared for death, he positioned himself on top of the Nautilus above the eye of the Kracken and jumped with all his might and body pushing the harpoon deep through the eye of the Kracken and into its brain, The Nautilus then exploded in a brilliant flash as the fuel tanks burst from the pressure, the Kracken was fatally wounded. But even by the miracle the God Drakkar had created, all was lost and the Captain was presumed shark bait by all. Drakkar closed his eyes never expecting to see his hero again and went into a deep sleep.

Chapter Nine… Reunion

Many years passed, Captain Nemo was just a distant memory of few old salts, with no one knowing the final chapter of his life since dead men tell no tales, and the lives of ye all carried on. Aye, then on one sunny day, a face so familiar showed up at the guild hall of The Rejects carrying a soggy box of cookies and alcohol. So familiar in-fact that the God Drakkar awoken from his slumber of many years. Could it be that he lived, but how. Alas with that cracked smile and a voice known by only the most elderly old salts of The Rejects, he said “eeellllloooooooo…… Arrrr, you be expecting ahoy weren’t ya, ho ho ho.

Well, me shivers be timbers as all gathered that day at The Rejects Guild great hall to listen to the tall tales of Captain Nemo as the hornpipes be played. He told of the vile giant squid, the creation of the Nautilus, and how he survived the cannon like explosion of the fair Nautilus when he was struck by an air tank propelled by the blast that pushed him to the surface. Aye, It appears Drakkars miracle did work, he just could not see it throughout the chaos of the great battle.

Nemo came to shortly after the explosion feeling three sheets to the wind and drifted many hours in the ocean atop a piece of debri until finally being pushed ashore through a lagoon of a tiny island. He then spent many years on this deserted island reminiscing the jolly times with The Rejects longing to return to what he felt had become home port. Then one day the bucko feasted his eye upon a passing ship. Avast ye, Nemo flagged it down with smoke signals from a fire on shore, they rowed out a small dingy to pick him up and Nemo soon realized it was his old shipmates, them sons of a biscuit eaters, who cast him out into the will of posiedon himself. Aye, but after hearing of his many good deeds throughout the taverns and rusty spoons of many of the world’s ports, they finally believed him about the Kracken and took pity and remorse for the old dog and their fool hardy ways. Those treacherous sea biscuts offered Nemo a spot on the ships rosters as Captain if he would forgive them of their devious way, but Nemo refused whole heartedly. Nemo, stood with a silent cold glare that could make the balls fall off a brass monkey and told all who stood before that…

All was forgiven and only asked to be returned to what he, already felt was home, with The Rejects.

Important Events
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

12/6/2012 @ 06:40: Dearest diary, today was the day! I carefully laid the last brick, swept all the rooms, opened all windows to let your glorious light shine in. I can’t believe it, your temple is finally finished, my Lord! I feel delirious with happiness.

Interesting facts and notes
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Currently working in the Besieged chapter of the story so this is why it’s incomplete

Future plans and ideas. Better link each event in Nemo’s life. Improve the final battle with the squid, using items like blow gun torpedos and electric eels. Incorporate more members from the rejects and use old forum post in the story to make the good times in the ending more reverent. Add details of how the Nautilus looks and work. incorporate more godville items into the story.

Perhaps use on one occasion when Nemo is using his ship as a platform to hold survivors of a sunken ship until help arrives, that a large burly man dives down into the water to look the beast in the eye but instead looks in a port hole and sees Nemo. Then later incorporate that men meeting and helping convince the sailors from his old ship of Nemo’s good deeds instead of casting him back into the water or leaving on island, fearing he is a bad spirit and omen.

perhaps add a chapter after the cave where he goes out of the cave and discovers a group of natives being oppressed by the godville administrators. He learns that he has landed in the land of godville and that the oppressors or from a island called Los Adminos.

Other ideas.

If there is no limit in chronicles, finish the story and call it book one then start other story’s in book two or more such as the journey to the center of Los Adminos.

Another book idea, “Nautilus rising” where Captain Nemo and a group of the rejects attempt to raise the sunken hull of the Nautilus from the deep ravine.

………………………………………………..

In Jules Vernes books, before he was known as Captain Nemo, he was Prince Dakkar (Drakkar depending on source) of India. The murder of his wife and child/ren caused him to be threw with society in whole and is why he created the Nautilus.

…..

The pudding that the young man lost is based off of the sperms whale milk pudding that Nemo offers his guest in 20,000 leagues under the sea.

Nemo: Eat your pudding Mr. Lance

Lance: I ain’t sure that’s pudding.

…..

The God Drakkar saved the young man only once he was unconscious and placed him on shore was inspired by Nemo saving an unconscious castaway who fell out of a hot air balloon into the sea, in the book “The mysterious island.”

…..

The cave/grotto which the lad found before he took the name Nemo and in which the Nautilus is created in is based off the grotto which the Nautilus enters into in the “mysterious island” and becomes permanently entrapped within the island with no means of escape after the entrance collapses in. When Captain Nemo dies in the book of old age, he has the survivors who are left on the island pull the ballast plugs on the ship and sink him and the Nautilus to the bottom of the grotto as his tomb. Since in the book, the cave is Nemo’s final resting place, I felt the need to turn the cave into the birth of Nemo in these chronicles.

…..

Scurvy is a disease caused by severe vitamin C deficiency that killed many sailors until the 19th century when sauerkraut became a popular food used to prevent and cure scurvy. Before then, a ship could leave with 2000 people on board for several a month journey and arrive in port with only 700 people still alive.

…..

The giant squid that stole the lads pudding is based on the giant squid that attacked the Nautilus and killed one of Nemo’s men in the book “20,000 leagues under the sea”.

…..

A league is not a depth which many believe but a measurement of distance. One league is 3.452 miles (5.556 Kilometers). Therefore if the Nautilus traveled 20,000 league’s as the title says, it would have traveled 69,046.767 miles (111,120 kilometers) or nearly 2.77 times around the circumference of the earth.

…..

The deepest the Nautilus was said to ever dive to was 4 leagues (13.808 miles or 22.224 kilometers). In the book 20,000 leagues under the sea, the Nautilus was straining under full power just to maintain that depth, it was total blackness outside and the sea floor was not said to be visible, indicating the sea could be much deeper in the book. The actual deepest part of the ocean is Challenger Deep which is 6.856 miles (11.033 kilometers).
