Hero's Chronicles

The First Stage

I awoke in a dark valley, nothing but grass as far as I could see. As I stood up, the darkness closed in, surrounding me. A deep, echoing voice came from all sides.

“I am Cthon-yakroth, the lord of the void, the space between universes, the hole between dimensions. I have chosen you to be my champion, to stand beside me in the chaos of existence. You will be given great powers, should you accept my offer. You shall reign over many dimensions, with absolute control over the laws of those realities. Your power will be great, so great that your feeble mind cannot understand it. With your power, your mind will expand, and you will understand many things that cannot be known by your kind.”

Power. Something I had never experienced before. Power that could grant me freedom from the laws of reality. The choice was clear.

“I will accept your offer, Cthon-yakroth.”

As soon as I finished speaking, a bright purple flame appeared before me, quickly fading away. After it had burned away, a piece of paper was left floating where it had been. A black pen appeared next to it. Then I heard the voice again.

“Wonderful, sign here. Tell me, what are you called?”

I grabbed the pen and signed the contract as fast as I could. I was not about to let the chance for near omnipotence escape me.

“I am called Aegin. What do I need to do to attain this power now, Cthon-yakroth?”

Cthon-yakroth laughed, a dark, evil laugh.

“Your side is done. The rest will be done by me.”

Suddenly I felt as if my head was cracking open, and my mind was shattering. My sight began to fade, but I did not lose consciousness. It felt as if my brain was growing, but my skull was not expanding to allow it. I heard a ringing laugh, and then another, and another. Soon all I could hear was thousands upon thousands of laughs, laughing at my pain, my suffering. And then it stopped. I opened my eyes to find my vision restored, and my head was the same size as before. I was floating in a dark void, I could not see more than a foot in front of my face. Then I heard a voice.

“Welcome back, my friend. Do not worry, the pain is over now. Your mind has expanded, and you have been granted the power you were promised. would you like to try them out?”

The darkness faded away, and I found myself standing in a forest, facing a small cottage.

“Try to change a law of nature. Make oxygen toxic, or lower the boiling point of water. Maybe make birds the superior race. Simply think of something and try to enforce your will on the world.”

My first attempt was a success. I inverted the temperatures of everything in the universe. The sun became a huge ball of frozen gases, Ice became blue fire. The world quickly turned to chaos.

“Good. Very good. Let me show you a few personal favorites when tinkering with the laws of reality.”

Cthon-yakroth taught me to create balls of pure madness, which would float around and randomly affect everything they touched. He reversed time, causing everything to age backwards. He switched green and purple. Humans were given tentacles, dogs were given bat wings, rats became titanic. It was chaos. And it was beautiful.

“I must leave you now. I will summon you if your presence is desired. You can travel between dimensions the same way you change laws of existence. I have put a few dimensions off limits, my favorites mostly. Enjoy yourself, and you may call me if you need me. Just imagine that I am there, and I will come.”

With that, Cthon-yakroth left me. It appears I have some fun times ahead of me.

The Second Stage

I have awoken in a dark room, kneeling on the floor. I find myself unable to manipulate this dimension. Feeling around, I find nothing but a strange door in the wall, with no handles or hinges. Suddenly, bright purple flames begin to spread across the door. The consume the door in a matter of seconds, allowing me to see outside. I step out into an incredibly ornate room, covered in purple carpets and banners, lined with gold and red. At the end of the room sits the lord of the void, atop a throne of twisted human misery. Arms, legs, heads. Not a single whole human. All still alive, clearly in incredible pain. the carpet around the throne was covered in blood, and Cthon-yakroth wore a crown of human arms, twisted around each other.

“Well hello, Aegin. How do you like my palace? It takes up this entire dimension, you know. Would you like a refreshment?”

A tray suddenly appears in front of me, holding a single goblet. The goblet is made of some strange dark material, and decorated with strange symbols and skulls. It contains a dark red liquid, similar in consistency to blood. I grin and take a sip.

“Lovely place you’ve got here. What’s this I’m drinking? I quite like it.”

Cthon-yakroth laughs. He lifts up his hand and a goblet appears in it.

“That right there is concentrated human blood, mixed with a few drops of pure evil essence. Delicious, but very difficult to obtain. Anyways, would you like a quick tour of the place? we have over 17 thousand different torture rooms, as well as many other entertainment rooms.”

Suddenly, a small black pyramid flew into the room. It had a big white eye in the middle of each side, and tiny little black arms and legs. It stopped before Cthon-yakroth, and the eye facing him turned into a mouth. It spoke in a strange, ancient language. Its voice was deep and loud, as if it was coming from all sides.

“Δάσκαλε, η πύλη είναι πλήρης.”

Cthon-yakroth stopped, and a cruel grin slowly spread across his face.

“Είναι? Λοιπόν , ας ξεκινήσουμε. Συγκεντρώστε τα αντικείμενα.”

He turned back to me and signaled me to follow him and the flying pyramid.

“Well Aegin, it seems we have something more interesting than a tour to take care of. You see, one of the few dimensions I am unable to access is the first dimension to come into existence. I have been constructing a portal, but I needed many different artifacts from many dimensions. I have finally collected them all, and the time has come for me to rule the first dimension.”

The very first dimension. The beginning of all that exists. We enter a room lit by torches with purple flames. There is a pile of magical artifacts in the corner of the room. In the center of the room is a stone gate with black and purple veins. Seven tables stand equidistant from the portal. They each hold an artifact inside a circle of runes. Excalibur, the holy grail, Pandora’s box, the Book of Thoth, the Ark of the Covenant, and Mjolnir. The last pedestal was empty. One of the pyramid creatures glides in holding a small sphere and sets it on the pedestal. It flies off down the hall as the sphere starts to glow with a brilliant yellow light. Gold slowly spreads over the pedestal. In a matter of minutes it was completely transformed.

Cthon-yakroth turns to the portal and extends his finger. His fingernail changes into a sharp claw and he begins scratching runes into the portal.

“The philosopher’s stone was the final piece. Soon the first dimension will be mine!”

He finished scratching the runes into the gate and stood in front of it. He began chanting in the strange language he ad used before. As he chanted, the gate began to glow.

“Με τη δύναμη αυτών των μεγάλων αγγείων , μπορώ να γεφυρώσει το χάσμα σε όλη κόσμους . Ανοίγω την πόρτα στην αρχή , γιατί θα φέρει το τέλος της!”

The center of the gate turned dark, and the portal spread until it filled the gate. The surface rippled, and an image formed. Cthon-yakroth walked to Excalibur and picked it up. The blade turned into a black substance with purple veins.

“You have served your purpose, and now I give you a new name. From this moment on, you shall be called Omega, for with you I will bring the end.”

Then he walked to the pile of artifacts and pulled out an amulet, a dark claw attached to a gold chain. I recognized the claw, for I had seen the beast who had lost it. This was the claw of the dragon Vorlianth, the devourer of worlds. He placed it around his neck and motioned for me to come to him.

“Pick a few artifacts, we may need them. I do not know what this dimension has in store for us.”

I chose the staff of Merlin as my weapon, as well as a dark purple robe with gold and black runes on it. As I put on the robe, I noticed a small purple stone set in a dark silver ring. I picked it up and tried it on, but it did not fit. It was then that I spotted a gold chain, sticking out from underneath a blue sphere. I picked up the chain and put it through the ring, which I then hung around my neck. I was ready.
