Hero's Chronicles

Welcome to Godville

This is your “Hero’s Chronicles”, an expansion of your diary that is always persistent. No matter where you are, alive or dead, your chronicles will remain intact unless you, dear hero, decide to wipe it clean yourself. It is bestowed upon you as a gift from a level beyond your understanding.

…Seriously, don’t try to figure out the logic. Just roll with it. Do I come into your Temple and criticise the curtains?

It has come to our attention that you have been referred to this world by Fate.
We thereby append these references onto you upon your acceptance of this hound:

Defense: 1
Helmet
100% More Gold Dropped By Enemies
75% Chance of Finding Magical Items
75% Vitality Penalty

Hey, maybe it’s about time I started writing in this thing. 10 bricks to go before I top off the Temple to my god. The mere thought of completing it excites me, even though that thought came over me just under 12 hours ago.

While merching stuff away to a wandering trader near the 126th milestone, he taught me a different way of calculating the time of day. He claims this so-called “Gregorian” method is more attuned to the way the gods calculate time. “Gods”? Really?! Funny as the Underground…as if there was more than one god…and why would my god calculate time anyway? I’m sure a god has better things to do than tell time. Why, if I were a god, I’d tell the trader, “You can bask in my glory if you like.”

This fishing pole has got to be the second-best investment I’ve ever made. Whenever I feel abandoned, all I need to do is find a puddle, sit down, run something through with the pole and magic happens. If I could fish out the things I really need, I’d never ever have to worry about getting a drink again.

In hindsight, it doesn’t hurt to sign off every page with this peculiar calculation. Better than always scribbling “Peronto” at the end. And much more interesting to look at, too!

Day 2237 g.e.

It’s a beautiful day. After 19 months and 63 deaths, the temple to the Almighty One is finished.

I’ve never seen the sun shine so brightly. Maybe it’s a sign from my god telling me that I’ve, at last, done something truly incredible.

The only question now is: What’s next?

I shall take some time off doing odd jobs and revelling in delight at the completion of the temple, then I’ll find another meaningful thing to do.

Day 2263 g.e.
2202 at offset +8

My arms are aching a little after hauling six logs of gopher wood. I’m starting to feel that unlearning what has been learnt is not exactly the best quest in the long run. I mean, I’m sure I’ve done lots of things over the course of 559 quests, including how to haul logs efficiently, but now I have to relearn how to do them all over again.

So here I am, now hauling logs instead of golden bricks. It’s funny to come across a golden brick now and see it as nothing more than a rather nice find that can bag more gold from merchants. I mean, I literally spent hundreds of days toiling my bottom off for them, but now, with the completion of the temple to the Almighty, they just feel so insignificant now…

Ah, right, the logs. I’m gathering them to build an ark for the Exalted One. Ever since I had that weird dream a few weeks ago about a god building the grandest ark, I’ve been inspired to build an ark myself. It can’t be that hard. It’s going to take a while before I get enough gopher wood to make a complete ark, though, but I’m pretty optimistic that I’ll get enough eventually, just like how I eventually did get enough golden bricks to build a nice temple. If the Righteous One is watching over me, I can’t go wrong.

Wow! A full inventory load! I don’t usually travel long enough to run out of space to carry stuff; I usually run low on health and flee to the nearest town. Or just die and drop everything where I was still living.

This is, what, only the second time I had to go back to town because of a full load? The first was when the world was inundated with alphabet rain.

I’m going to unload all this at a trader in the next town, and then get smashed at the tavern. Forget the savings; this only comes once in a blue moon.

Day 2447 g.e.
1754 at offset +8

My first foray into the Dungeon, which is usually the last place I would want to go. Still, it felt like the Almighty was watching over me (or was the Almighty glaring at me?), and even opened a nice staircase down, so I couldn’t say no…

I was joined by three other heroes who also wandered down the same staircase. One of them looked like they had been in a fight just before they came down the stairs.

It was a great time to find that the Great One seemed to have issues sending healing rays down to the Dungeon; He’s not that good at directions either – we lost a bit of gold because I went north under influence. Well, it could’ve been worse…

By blind luck, we eventually found a treasure trove and divided the loot we found. Shortly after we parted ways, I looked at my trophies, only to find that they had been replaced by an equal number of gold bricks. Not too shabby…

So here I am, out of the Dungeon, with all these nice gold bricks clattering away in my bag, and this huge stash of coins weighing me down. I feel like I can still do a bit of exploration, so I’ll do that till my inventory’s full.
