Frost Bites

Dec 01 2020

Winter is Coming
Actually, it’s already here — which means it’s a perfect time to welcome the usual suspects.

The first one is kinda fishy. Fishing is what heroes do a lot in the winter. Hungry fish like it too and will nibble even without bait.

The second one is about ocean cold and what it brings to sails — icebergs. They’re just like reefs, but with an extra refrigeration function, which helps to save supplies while the ark is on it.

Skill Swaps
A hero is nothing without his superpowers aka skills. As you know, a hero could swap a skill for another one whenever he feels like it, which doesn’t happen too often. From now on, there is a way to give him a divine kick in that direction — a special activatable artifact. Once triggered, it will forcefully replace an existing skill with some other one. It’s not like you have to use it, but if you want – the option is there.

Content Update
Every once in a while we dive deep into the Ideabox to get back with a fresh bunch of game texts. Today is one of these resurfacing days. Having sorted through the vast deposits of just four ideabox drawers, we’re glad to report that hundreds of new diary phrases, quests, and artifacts are now in the game. And it’s not over just yet — more will be added over the next few days. Big thanks to all the authors and ER-editors!

One more nice thing — while the idea is in ER you can quickly jump to it right from your ingenious pieces. Handy!

Pet, Loot, Love

Oct 31 2020

Greetings, dear gods and goddesses! Hope you are doing well and ready to get updated.

Halloween Special
Let’s start off with a glimpse of spookiness. Risen monsters, glowing pumpkins, hungry tribbles, pumpkined-up artifacts — all of these will be in abundance everywhere throughout Godville for the next 24 hours.

New Pet Breed
Back to the more lasting things. Remember the last update which introduced a new way to free up the ark’s stable? Now it’s a good time to fill it up again with new inhabitants.

A strong urge for a fancy pet’s job has brought up a fascinating change in some of the monsters — an unstoppable desire to loot things. Instead of gnawing on and breaking hero’s stuff, these pets like to find things. It will come in handy for those who like to fill up their loot bags faster.

Here is the list of new pets: Robber Chicken (18+), Chesthugger (30+), Pocket Monster (40+), Evil Minion (50+), Spider Pig (60+), Atomic Kitten (75+), Hamburglar (85+), Unbearable Grizzly (100+), Battle Hamster (110+) and Lava Lamb (130+).

Oh, and if you know an in-game monster who is perfect for a pet’s job — any pet, not just the looting ones — feel free to send it in Ideabox, ‘other’ section. There ought to be new additions to the pets tribe sooner or later.

Rest of the News
Diversity, as we all know now, is a must. Let’s spice up a few of the existing things with fresh sprinkles:

  • New newspaper coupons — for free potions and even skill level up.
  • New side job — to flee from a bunch of monsters.
  • New datamine option — bosses can pick up bits while flying over them.

Finally, a handy tweak for boss-constructing gods — if a hero has a Lab, boss parts in the inventory will now mention part’s level.

Mushroom Season
The summer is almost over – which means it’s time for mushroom hunting. The whole month of September heroes will constantly stumble upon mushrooms. With strange aura-inducing effects upon eating.

Setting Pets Free
Getting rid of an unwanted pet was always a chore – too much hustle with vet quests and everything. Introducing a new, much simpler way to release an undesired pet-monster (even with levels)! You’ll need only two things for this – an ark and the godly virtue of patience. After spending six uninterrupted months in the ark a pet can be set free into the wild if the god wishes so. (The old way with a vet quest is still here, so you can use it as before.)

Pet’s Relatives
It was always strange to see a pet beating up his own kind. No more of this nonsense – if your hero’s pet meets a relative, it will somehow work things out without a fight.

Sail Chronicles Upgrade
A recent improvement from dungeons has made its way to the seas: new sail replays will reveal the map step by step, just like it was happening in original expeditions.

Pinned Chats
Long-awaited and many times requested feature for messaging: pin conversations to the top of your list, so the most important friends will always be just a tap away.

App Update
Most of the things mentioned today require an app update. Both Android and iOS apps have been updated recently, so make sure you’re on the latest version to enjoy the new stuff. There are two bonus features inside: search on page for built-in web browser, and new in-fight notification – ‘notify after X turns’.

Free Coupons, etc

Jul 08 2020

Newspaper Coupons
Godville Times editors are always looking for new ways to delight their readers. This time around they’ve made a deal with local traders to introduce a simple, yet functional thing: coupons for free stuff.

It works like this: the newspaper will publish a new coupon every day. A deity can transfer this coupon straight to their champion’s pockets with a divine tap, and the hero will then cash it out during the next trading session. Most days the coupons will give some kind of an activatable artifact, but there will be other things as well.

Datamine Refreshments
It’s been a while since Datamine has opened, so it’s good to spice it up with a bit of variety. Datamine runs can now have special rules, e.g. a rule to kick bosses more often, a rule to have more locked bits, a rule that defines bytes as 7 bits… Just like in dungeons and sails — you know the drill.

Parts & Lab
If your hero is already collecting boss’ parts, you know that he visits the Lab only upon arriving in town, which leaves a few cases when the part can be lost or sold. So from now on the heroes will check the Lab more often – after praying and even after teleporting to a town. This applies to the wanted monster rewards as well.

Summer Package

Jun 01 2020

Hello, gods and goddesses! Just a few weeks ago we celebrated Godville’s anniversary. Now it’s time to move on — with new goodies and stuff.

  1. Remember the strong monsters? The ones noted with a meeting phrase in the diary. From now on it will be easier to spot them by the bold name right in the Earthly News. (Make sure to use the latest version of the app from the store.)
  2. New achievement for the Book writers is here — just wait for the next glyph to see it.
  3. New side job. This time it involves the favorite thing of every hero — squandering money on town parties.
  4. New sea type — without ubiquitous crates, but with an extra booty on a map.
  5. New dungeon type — every room will generate a small amount of godpower.
  6. Arena/Dungeons/Sails speed up — each step will be a tiny bit faster (around 10-20%).
  7. Sparring fights from now on will equalize the opponents’ health (just like in Arena duels).
  8. Dungeon chronicles now reveal the map step by step, just like in the original expedition. (Only for the new chronicles.)

10th Anniversary!

May 10 2020

Hello, Godville’s gods and goddesses! Today is a really special day.

Ten years ago, on May 10, 2010, this world was created. (This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.)

So today we’re celebrating Godville’s 10th Anniversary. Tenth! Can you imagine it?

(We are not, frankly. It’s simply too much for our fragile minds to grasp.)

Nevertheless, here we are. Thanks to the gods and goddesses — it’s great to have you all here. Thanks to our heroes — they work tirelessly to amuse us. Thanks to all those who help — we couldn’t do it without you. Thanks to the server daemons — they (almost) never let us down. In other words, thanks to everything and everybody.

Let’s get to the celebration part, shall we? Firstly, congratulate your hero with a godvoice to fill your accumulator with a supersized pack of charges. That should get you in the right mood.

Then check the godpower capacitor in the newspaper — it went off the scale. For the next 5 days it will be bursting with energy and will even yield some extra — if a hero is not too busy. Meanwhile loads of specially bred anniversary monsters have been released into the fields, waiting to be defeated and sacrificed. Running out of godpower would be really hard for the next few days.

Finally, as a part of the celebration, we’re doing a Reddit AMA right now. Check it out if you’re burning with questions or just want to know more about Godville history.

Happy Anniversary!

Meanwhile in Godville

Mar 22 2020

While the world is going crazy, here is some silly news to relax.

Secret Treasury
Fascinating news from dungeons. There are rumors of a hidden room, stranded in the dusty corners of underground catacombs. It’s just like the treasury, but with even more loot inside. Sweet amenities of this room are guarded by the well-known practice of “security by obscurity”: It’s uncharted, nothing points to it nor even it has a dedicated boss-guardian. Secret treasury can only be found by sheer luck — which is what AFK-parties often rely on.

Sweet Reunion
A little upgrade for the heroic heads — they can now feel the long awaited return of the master. If you haven’t visited your hero for weeks or months he will notice your return and greet you. A mere trifle, but who doesn’t like attention?

Ideas Withdrawal
Quite a few times we received a peculiar feature request — to be able to delete an idea after it was submitted. Well, recently it was added — you have full 10 minutes after sending to change your mind and withdraw an idea before it will go for public voting. You can find the withdrawal link on My ingenious pieces page in the Ideabox.

Spring Cleaning
Finally, let’s welcome the spring by getting rid of old stuff. It’s time for Content Cleaning. If you believe that some of the game’s phrases are poorly worded, inappropriate or just boring please post them here.

Contentful Update

Feb 08 2020

Greetings, gods and goddesses! Let’s mark the new year with the new stuff.

Big Content Update
We finally managed to sort through the heaps of submissions in the six most cluttered drawers of Ideabox (btw, thanks for patience!). The result is astounding – more than a thousand new content ideas have been added to the game! That includes hundreds of new artifacts, earthly news, dungeon, sail and duel chronicle entries. Newspaper also got a long-awaited content refresh (should be visible in tomorrow’s issue).

Newspaper ER
Newspaper submissions used to disappear in the void of Ideabox, skipping community voting altogether. This injustice is no more – from now on such ideas will go through the regular voting process, with ER and everything.

On a related note, we’d like to express our gratitude to everyone in ER for their participation and work. Your creativity and contribution really helps the game.

New Forecasts
As some attentive gods already noticed, starting from January there are three new forecasts in Godville Times. First one lets heroes sleep longer and more often. The second one makes tribble encounters much more common. The third one gives a chance of getting an unplanned side job.

Side Jobs Extension
Speaking of side jobs – it’s a bummer to see an almost finished side job to expire. From now on a hero could occasionally extend the current side job for a couple more hours by hitting a POI on the map. Sometimes that could really help to to finally get the job done.

By the way, you can now get nudged when the hero finds a new side job – just update the Godville app (Android, iOS) to get this new notification option.

Holiday News

Dec 21 2019

Let’s continue from where we left off with a present for the “warriors of pen and paper”. Welcome the Pantheon of Wordcraft — a place to compare the progress of the next major goal.

Now for the main part. Right around the Day X in late December, also known as Christmas, cold and dense air gets filled with holiday spirit and magic. First of all, it’s time of snowflakes (❄). A hero can get one from a special Christmas reindeer, fish it out or loot it. This peculiar thing is actually useful. Traders pay real gold for it. A god can sneak one and use it as a wildcard in the Bingo game. Also, four or five snowflakes crumbled together in the inventory make… a snowman, which the hero can then valiantly fight and even get some festive loot.

Second, some quick news from snow-covered fields. Santa Clawses and Satan Clauses are leaving their warm dens to deliver spirit and presents for all (btw, It’s the only time of the year when these could be tamed as pets). In a few hours from now a well-known festive town of Laplandville will be ready to open its doors. Famous for its holiday offers, discounts and other bonuses, it proudly welcomes all the customers just a couple milestones away from the Godville itself.

Finally, there are presents. These are traditional Christmas activatables that yield some good stuff, including gold bricks, gopher wood, manimals, chunks of XP for your champion or godpower boost for you. A hero should get them by himself — just peek into his loot bag from time to time. Btw, there is a sure way to get present – just play Bingo in Godville Times.

The fest will last till Jan 2. Happy Holidays!

Datamine

Dec 09 2019

Today is the day for the experienced ones — the deities who already have a lab boss and whose heroes are busy with writing a sacred book.

As you may have noted, it’s a challenging task for our attention deficit heroes. Up to now, they could only learn glyphs while sleeping — and it turned out to be hard while sleeping drunk.

However, anything can be improved with a little bit of science. Behold the Datamine — a special place for learning sacred things. Particle collision creates lots of data, right? Datamine was made to collide the heaviest, most energy-dense (and also dumbest) particles of Godville – the lab bosses.

Data from the datamine can be used in two ways. Firstly, it helps to learn new glyphs for the Book. Secondly, it produces bosscoins.

Bosscoin is a fancy new currency of Godville. It’s weird, mysterious and very valuable — on a good day a bosscoin can be sold for up to 18 thousand gold coins! On other days it could cost pennies — its price is flaky and changes many times an hour. Godville Times is up with this new trend: editors are already publishing up-to-date bosscoin rates in the newspaper’s exchange section.

Let’s sum it up. Finally, gods got a shiny new button for their Remote controls and something new to play with, alongside familiar dungeons and sails (it’s been years since something like that happened!). Check this forum topic to learn more. Also make sure to update the Godville app on your phone (Android, iOS).
