Best Pets Forever

Godville, Jul 23 2012

There are sayings among Godville gods that sometimes pets can be even more interesting than the heroes themselves. Therefore, having a pet suddenly die or get replaced could be an unpleasant experience, which is not something that we want. So let’s make it better!

First of all, pets will no longer die. From now on, when a pet saves the life of his master, he won’t die as he would have before. Instead he’ll just be knocked unconscious. The hero can then heal him within 60 hours (same rules as before), but even if he fails to do so, the pet won’t be lost. He will come back to his senses on his own, but this time as a more cautious and down-to-earth animal. An animal that doesn’t care about levels, pantheon competition, battle nicknames and has no desire to sacrifice his life, preferring just to simply be with his master.

In other words:

  • if all you wanted was to see your hero with a friendly companion, you can now forget about the burden of resurrection and just enjoy the game! The pet will stay with his hero forever.
  • if for some reason you care about pet levels and pantheon position – nothing changes (except the terminology and new UI feature showing the time left for pet healing).
  • if you want to get rid of a levelless pet, read ahead: once in awhile, your hero will take a quest to bring his companion to a vet for a routine checkup. If you cancel this quest, the hero will set the pet free.

Other news:

  • for those playing in a web browser – check out the greetings on the top left area of the page. There might be something interesting up there!
  • the most recent iPhone app update has a shiny new feature that should make influencing more convenient. Make sure to install it.
  • recent advancements in heroic brain science have finally taught the heroes to turn profit on the old stuff left after an equipment upgrade. It’s never too late to make heroes smarter, right?

UPD: There are no changes for pet medals – they are given upon reaching level 30. As with all other achievements, once it’s given it can be never taken away.

Btw, we’re accepting submissions for new monsters, that can be tamed. Post it right here, in comments (one pre-condition: they must be chosen from the monsters that already in the game).

Guess the help files are inaccurate. Rocky racoon tameable at levels 18-29 and tamed one at level 30.

I really don’t like this update. I have to sit around and wait for a quest? Just to get rid of this useless pet. How silly. Need a release button.. .

Instead of the level-less pet that’s completely useless, why not lower the cost of reviving a pet? My pet just died at level 21 & with the current formula to figure the cost to revive, that puts me near 10k. Hero’s are hardly smart enough to save 3k let alone 10… I finally got a pet to level past 20 & sure don’t want a worthless unlevelable, non-fighting pet.

There should be a way to abandon a pet, levelless or not. I want to get one of the awesome new pets, and eventually a philosoraptor, but my heffalump is good at what he does, so I don’t see him dying anytime soon. While this rocks as I’m close to my breeder medal…i really don’t want him forever.

Definitely the atomic kitten. I’m tired of getting sun dogs and dandy lions. I love dogs, but I’m a cat person and the dandy lion is getting kind of lame :(

I agree about the atomic kitten. Also would love more dragons. And there needs to be a way to get rid of pets you don’t want that’s faster than waiting for a quest. Unless you make “go to the vet” suggestible after a quest is finished

Alright fine. At least the quest came soon.. I really think the cost to resurrect a pet should be less. Once the pet is over 15, it is basically impossible to resurrect. That’s not very fair. You should perhaps make it a quest once the pet is that high in level or cut the cost of resurrection in half so it is actually plausible. It would make the game much more enjoyable especially when a god is so close to a breeder medal as right now it’s basically luck, praying the pet doesn’t die after level 15.

I agree that you should lower the costs to resurrect a higher Lvl pet

I think the Scare Bear should be a new pet. It’s a really clever parody of “care bear” and already in the game

I’m a little distraught, since my pet was level 15 , I couldn’t afford to resurrect him. Now I have to decide whether to abandon him somewhere, or give up the dream of having the spiffiest pet ever. Glad he didn’t die and all, but because of cost I now have endure the pain of selling my trojan house to the glue factory myself. Is the very quest repeatable? A little but more of a tweak and this COULD be the best update yet….just not quiet.

I am really mad right now because my heroine couldn’t afford to revive her pet and now he’s just useless. I think there should be a bold item that the hero(ine) can get that will give the pet its will back. Maybe not restore it to the level it was at, but to a lower level where it can begin leveling up again. The cost to revive them at a higher level needs to go down as well because it’s nearly impossible to save up enough to revive a high level pet. Now because of the update I have a useless pet following me around who doesn’t fight, level, or do anything useful. To make a long story short, I hate the update!

Yah we really need to lower the costs of reviving the pet. My biowolf is a level 17 and he’s knocked out. I already know my hero isn’t gonna safe him. Unbelievable, we need a new update.
